[USA-San Francisco, CA] Treau - Thermal Research Engineer
Industrial Jobs
We’re building the next generation of thermodynamic devices for an industry that hasn’t seen innovation in over 50 years. We’re looking for someone who understands both the fundamentals of scientific research and the bigger picture of our impact on global climate. We strive to create a built environment that doesn’t compromise our natural environment, and are looking for someone to help us create the foundation for that future.
Responsibilities
Develop thermodynamic devices with groundbreaking efficiency to cut carbon emissions and expand access to healthy, comfortable buildings
Design and optimize thermodynamic cycles by guiding the choice of components and operating parameters
Maximize heat transfer efficiency through strategic design of geometry and flow
Use off-the-shelf and custom-developed simulation tools to simulate thermodynamic, flow, and heat transfer processes
Work with firmware engineer to design control strategies for optimal control of thermodynamic devices
Design and run experiments, process and understand results, and identify paths forward
Write grant applications and reports to granting agencies
Desired Qualifications
MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent technical field
Track record of solving open-ended problems through creative thinking
Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
Experience with Python/SciPy, MATLAB, or similar
Experience with instrumentation, data collection, and data analysis, e.g. using LabVIEW or microcontroller-based DAQ systems
Basic understanding of engineering design principles and controls systems
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with CFD or multiphysics simulation (ANSYS, COMSOL, Simulia or similar)
Experience with HVAC systems
Experience with adaptive controls
Knowledge of polymer manufacturing techniques and failure modes
